Meet Marianne Whyte
Throughout her 25 years representing others in the buying and selling of homes, Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty agent Marianne Whyte has been shaping what she prefers to call a client-centered approach.
“Real estate is often emotional,” notes Marianne, “for buyers and sellers. The human elements can be equally important as the professional elements. Personal consultation quickly becomes the essence of the experience for clients and agent alike and the consultation works best if characterized by continual and effective two-way communication.”
Her client-centered service begins not with showing homes but rather the careful clarification of the client’s goals and preferences. That process takes time and usually can be facilitated by Marianne’s complementary techniques of ‘powerful questioning’ and ‘active listening,’ skills she refined while becoming a certified Business/Life Coach at Chapman University, and while coaching/counseling at the Women’s Opportunities Center at the University of California at Irvine (UCI).
“The coaching skills are integral to the personal service I try to provide. The academic experience has helped me evolve as a better realtor.”
Marianne’s market has been centered on the luxury homes of her Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty office location of Rancho Santa Fe, but extends along the wondrous coastline of the Coastal North County area of San Diego, encompassing La Jolla, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Cardiff, Encinitas, and Carlsbad.
“I relish the diversity,” says Marianne, “and every one of these communities offers a wonderful selection of homes. The Coastal North County area offers a distinctive lifestyle its residents cherish.”
It was along the North County coastline that Marianne sold her first property in 1977. Several years of success later in 1985 she won a position on the prestigious team of realtors at Fairbanks Ranch Realty, when the original home sites were still available for purchase. Marianne played a dynamic role in the development and success of the office and soon the accolades and awards reflected her high degree of achievement:
- recipient of the coveted Chairman’s Circle Award –top 1% in the nation
- a top 10 agent in San Diego County
- a top 100 agent in California
“The Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty reputation and global presence speak for themselves. More importantly, the firm mirrors my personal philosophy of excellence and commitment to clients; that is, the client must come first.”
The client-centered approach Marianne practices has yielded unanticipated rewards in her personal life, notably the making of good friends from loyal clients. She has sold multiple homes to clients over the years, and even has had the opportunity to vacation with a few of them.
With a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and a Masters degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Marianne has retained an enthusiastic commitment to continuing education, participating routinely in conferences and seminars, not only in real estate, but also in aspects of personal and professional development. She has displayed a rather intense intellectual interest in the related disciplines of health and wellness, and new approaches in medicine.
A friend from her graduate days at UCLA has described the dual facets of Marianne’s personality that have contributed to her achieving the high marks in real estate. “Marianne combines a keen independence with a joy in meeting new people. The two contrasting attributes do not often go so well together. People like Marianne readily and easily.
“Probably the best thing that can happen to a potential client that just walks in the door unannounced at Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Rancho Santa Fe office is to find Marianne on duty. Only a good experience can follow.”
When she’s not working or dashing off to the next interesting conference or seminar, Marianne might be found at the local theater, or in a yoga or Pilates class, at a dance class, or maybe walking on a nearby beach. She finds time for volunteering at the Women’s Opportunities Center at UC Irvine as a coach/counselor, a pastime near and dear to her heart.
